Question by ♥: Help with London – airport travel, tube, hotels?
I’m still working on figuring out our one day stop in London and have two options figured out and need some help.

Arrive at London Stansted at 7:30am. We can take the Easy Bus to Baker’s Street then take the tube to Charing Cross. (Am I reading the tube map right that says I can get on the brown line to Charing Cross from Baker’s Street?). We will then leave our luggage at Charing Cross with Excess Baggage Company take the tube back to Piccadilly Circus and hop on our bus tour. We’ll collect our luggage in the evening from Charing Cross and take the tube to Hatton Cross and stay in a hotel near London Heathrow.

Or, once we arrive at London Stansted we can take the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street station. Leave our luggage with Excess Baggage at Liverpool Street and take the tube to Holborn and then connect to Piccadilly. Return to Liverpool St. in the evening and figure out how to take the tube to Heathrow.

Which one of these options is the better option? Easy Bus is cheaper, but takes a little longer. I’ve heard Stansted Express isn’t that reliable, but the luggage storage is right there. Do we need to book Stansted Express in advance? Also, how do we navigate the tube? Can we buy one-way passes from Baker’s Street to Charing Cross then back to Paddington? (Same for Liverpool to Piccadilly?) What about getting to Hatton Cross – how do we know the right tube passes to get?
Our flight out of Heathrow leaves at 6am so we need to be at Heathrow around 3am. How do we get to Heathrow at 3am if Hoppa Bus and Tube don’t run at that time?

Stansted Express is reliable, you don’t need to book it in advance you can buy tickets at the station or inside the airport on the day

Yes, the Bakerloo Line (brown) goes from Baker Street to Charing Cross Station. Once you’re in the station the platform where you need to pick up your train will be signposted, there will also be personnel in blue uniforms who can direct you where you need to go, other users will also give you directions if you ask.

You can buy one day travelcards to use the tube – since you’re passing through a number of different zones, travelcards for zones 1 to 6 would be best. You could also just get oyster cards & put a couple of pounds on them then top them up when they run low. There are information booths in some Underground stations or you can discuss the type of ticket you’ll need with the person on duty at the ticket office.

This link will explain how London Underground, the tube & buses work and the different types of tickets. Transport for London also has an official website where you can get information on the different types of tickets, zoning etc

Hatton Cross is very close to Heathrow – you can see the tube stations on this map, a taxi shouldn’t cost that much & if you’re staying in a hotel you can ask them to order one for you. There is probably a night bus service, your hotel should be able to tell you which bus you can take & where to catch it from.

If you want to do cheap & slightly boring or expensive & faster that’s up to you, you might like the ride through the Essex countryside into London

I would strongly suggest taking the Stansted Express train to Liverpool Street Station It is far more reliable than any form of road transport.. Traffic congestion on the roads between Stansted and London is very bad indeed. To reach Heathrow during the night i.e. by 3am you need to catch the N9
night bus which runs there every 20 minutes from Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Hyde Park Corner etc. The journey takes about 70 minutes http://www.stanstedexpress.com http://www.tfl.gov.uk

You could actually book a private taxi online from http://www.britishadventure.com/category/airport-taxi/ to pick you up from the airport and drop you Straight at your hotel(without warring about how to transport your luggage’s). The private taxi driver would be open to give you suggestions on the best route by bus underground tube to Piccadilly Circus for your hop on our bus tour(Taxi drivers seem to know a lot about shortest routes around London).

You can also book a second private taxi from their site to pick you up from your hotel from around 3am to take you to Heathrow Airport (The taxi company run 24 hours-7days a week ) .

But remember to book in advance, maybe a day or two in advance.

I hope you have a nice time in London
